A. Precautions To Be Taken Before Qi Gong Exercise:
The Dynamic Qi Gong exercise 動氣功 is based on exhaling 口哈 and inhaling 口吸 techniques through the mouth.
Both breathing and exercise should be non-exertive 輕, gentle 柔, gradual 緩and slow 慢.
1. Participants with respiratory problems, angina, myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular conditions,
including those with pacemakers need to be gentle and slow when inhaling.
2. Participants who have undergone surgery in the last 6 months should not “hold their breath 閉氣” during the exercise. Such participants will need to wait for a minimum period of 3 months before resuming the Qi Gong practice.
3. Participants with high or low blood pressure, abnormal blood sugar levels are advised to gently inhale, hold their breath and exhale at their own tolerable pace.
4. Participants who feel any discomfort or uneasiness during the practice of dynamic or static Qi Gong should stop immediately and inform his/her Coach.
The Static Qi Gong 静氣功 incorporates a breathing technique of exhaling through the mouth and inhaling through the nose. This is done in conjunction with compressing our “Qi”, holding our breath 閉氣, and tightening the pelvic
floor muscles as if you are trying to stop passing wind/flatus 提肛. A pregnant woman, or anyone with a history of high or low blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, retinal detachment; or recent surgery should not hold his/her breath during the exercise. If a participant is not able to hold his/her “qi” for 21 seconds, he/she may slowly and gently resume upright position and exhale through the mouth.
B. Qi Gong Exercise Safety Guidelines:
1. The Qi Gong exercise needs to be cancelled in the event of poor weather conditions such as rain, lightning, haze, low temperature or other unexpected event.
2. The Qi Gong exercise needs to be cancelled when the Air Pollution Index (API) is more than 75 (3hrs / 24hrs reading). In venues where the majority of the participants are elderly, weak or recuperating from an illness, the
Qi Gong exercise needs to be cancelled when API is more than 65.
* Please note that the API most likely does not apply in Western Australia, however it will be useful as a guideline for our participants travelling out of Western Australia.
